I live in farm country and have always loved the great variety of colors, textures, line and light that exist throughout the seasons. One of my very favorite times is when the snow covers the harvested cornfields, deep enough to cover the ground but not enough to cover the cut cornstalks. This creates great "graphic designs" of parallel rows meandering up, down and around on the white fields. There is an endless variety of those designs in the fields around here. I chose this simple one with the clean white barn in the background because the lines created by the corn draw the viewers' eye back through the fence row to the barn. I think it works pretty well.
Jim is a graduate of West Virginia University. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Art in 1970 and a Master's of Instructional Design in 1977. An artist all of his life, Jim took some instruction with Leland McLelland after moving to Central Ohio at the end of 1977. This was a pivotal time for Jim because he finally learned watercolor techniques which allowed him to illustrate. A realistic interpreter of what he sees, Jim finally felt like he'd found the medium that he could identify with. Though watercolor can be unforgiving, Jim has learned to create beautiful watercolors of the things he loves best.
