This is a portrait of a friend of mine~a friend of almost fifty years. Most of us don't have too many friends for fifty years and it is one of life's great blessings! Dan is quite a guy. I could have painted him as an idealistic adventurer traveling through Central America on a mission for peace. I could have painted him as a highly respected university professor. Or, I could have painted him as a successful business management consultant. I even could have painted him as a senior Olympian. He has been all of these things.
But here, I caught him as a blueberry picker! A simple blueberry picker. He and his lovely wife have a great place where they have a house, a barn, a lake, a garden and, of course a blueberry patch. I think, even with all he has done, and all he has accomplished, picking blueberries might be one of his favorite things!

Jim is a graduate of West Virginia University. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Art in 1970 and a Master's of Instructional Design in 1977. An artist all of his life, Jim took some instruction with Leland McLelland after moving to Central Ohio at the end of 1977. This was a pivotal time for Jim because he finally learned watercolor techniques which allowed him to illustrate. A realistic interpreter of what he sees, Jim finally felt like he'd found the medium that he could identify with. Though watercolor can be unforgiving, Jim has learned to create beautiful watercolors of the things he loves best.
