Description
We get a good bit of snow in Ohio and on occasion we have one of those beautiful show storms that, due to precise conditions, clings to the tops of every one of the branches of every one of the trees in the woods. It is breathtaking when it is "just right" and it only lasts for a short time before the wind and the sun begins tearing it down. This painting represents one of those snowstorms! On a morning like this, you open the curtains and all you can say is "Wow, look at that!" Now, if you are an artist you might add, "I wonder if I can capture even a little bit of that beauty?" Besides the obvious beauty of the white snow on the dark branches in front of the remarkable blue sky, there is a whole other aspect to this piece. That is the element of abstraction. If you squint your eyes when you look at this piece you will see a variety of light shapes intertwined with each other and with a varied set of dark lines all placed in front of a solid blue field. This could be a great abstract painting but it is not. It is as real as I can make it. Paintings like this teach us what we could be, what we should be, seeing when we look at the world around us. I love this painting!
