Description
This painting is an homage to a great friend an an amazingly talented guy. The guy is Dave Maset, a friend of mine for over 50 years. Dave and I went to art school together at West Virginia University (along with his future spouse, Karen) and, for a time we worked together at WVU. He was best man at my wife Sheryl and my wedding. Before college, Dave had served in the Army. I served in the Army after college. So we had that in common. One thing we did not have in common was ----cars. Dave knew about cars, all about cars! I knew little about cars---very little. For those college years, I would call Dave before I would call the tow truck. He would come, and I never had to call the tow truck!?! I'm not sure I ever thanked him enough for that, by the way! I said Dave knew about cars, well Dave Knows about cars. Dave built the car in the painting from the ground up in 2015+2016! It is not a model, it is not a restoration, it is not a kit. It is a full-sized roadster that he designed and hand built for his wife, Karen. When he went to get a license for the car (which they named Cruella because she looks a bit like the care in Disney's "101 Dalmations") he had to go through the whole process of registering the car as a totally new "one-of-a-kind" automobile. I think that is so amazing that it deserves a painting!
